Piazza del Mercato, Siena
"Thanks for putting all of this together...yes we had a fabulous time. Domenico says to say hello. You were right: the food was awesome and he generously placed a chilled bottle of Limoncello on our table after our meal. All of the tours and guides were amazing and Elena was great at getting us around. It's a VERY good thing that we did not have a car as we walked everywhere in order to walk off all of the wine and great Tuscan cuisine. Overall, incredible!"

Italy

This is a dream destination for the art lover or historian. Better yet, for the art-loving historian with a passion for food, wine and a taste for the good life.

From the bustle of the ancient Roman forum to the serenity of a Tuscan hillside or a crisp morning in the Dolomites, Italy is a country packed with staggering beauty and rich tradition. There is something for every age and interest, and few cultures are so passionate about the values of "family fellowship".

Enhance your own experience here by tapping into our local knowledge, meet our friends, and get a true sense of what it means to live in this incredible place.

A postcard from Italy...

Just back at the pool after an indulgent day of cooking and wine tasting.

We began with a walk through the vines (and up and down a few big hills!) to a gorgeous farmhouse 8km from here. The family who owns it welcomed us warmly and patiently taught us how to cook some delicious regional dishes, which we then sampled for lunch. Thank goodness we climbed those hills.

Later, we went to a nearby boutique winery where the winemaker and his wife showed us around their estate. Their passion was inspiring and the tasting was such fun. These are wines that one can only drink in Italy. It's as if we'd stumbled into a private cellar unlike any we'd find at home.

I'll miss this dreamy view of vineyards as far as the eye can see. We will leave Tuscany feeling as though we've made new friends.

Tomorrow the road takes us south to the Amalfi Coast. We splurged and rented an Alpha Spider convertible to navigate the scenic route. Along the way, we've arranged a private tour of Pompeii with an art historian, which will surely bring the petrified ancient city to life.

Our sights are now set on the terrace of our apartment in Positano, where we will sit and sip limoncello as we gaze across the Mediterranean Sea.

Let us know if you too would like to be the guests of that winemaker and his wife.
